Hanging out with Lynne!

Updated: Aug 10

I feel blessed to have so many special people in my life, what a wonderful day.

Although I'd never met Lynne Cox in person before, she has unknowingly been a presence in my own swimming for many years. I was given a copy of "Swimming to Antartica" shortly after I first started cold and ice swimming. It made me realize I wasn't alone in the joy it gave me and that there was a whole other world of swimming beyond the confines of the pool.

Lynne and I met up in Quebec City for coffee. We talked about swimming adventures, communities and the importance of access to water for all. And that time she almost got arrested! Swim first, beg forgiveness for the rules you break later. I gifted Lynne with a handmade memento from my In Search of Memphre (40km) swim, the first firing of a pendant featuring Memphre, the fabled lake monster that lives in the lake. Her partner Steven and fellow swimmers Justine and Nicolas joined us for lunch, then we took a ferry across the river to Lévis. Sentiment of the day: swimming brings good people together.

How do cold water swimmers stop themselves from just jumping off a ferry?

Forgot our swimsuits, that's all.
